About
Leslie K. Brown is an independent curator, scholar, and educator. She recently earned her PhD in Art History at Boston University and specializes in the history of photography, modern and contemporary art, and American and visual studies.
A former curator at the Photographic Resource Center in Boston, Brown holds an MA in Art History from the University of Texas at Austin. During her tenure at the PRC, she curated and oversaw over 40 exhibitions. Known for offerings that focused on emerging artists and new ideas, the gallery program garnered consistently positive press under her guidance and an award from the New England chapter of the Association of International Art Critics. Brown has also worked as a museum educator at the Cheekwood Museum of Art and Austin Museum of Art. She continues to work as a freelance arts professional, authoring essays for exhibition catalogs and artist books, and has guest curated exhibitions for the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Fairfield University Art Museum, and Provincetown Art Association and Museum. An award-winning educator, Brown has taught as an adjunct faculty member at BU, Lesley College of Art and Design, Rhode Island School of Design, and Wellesley College. An active speaker, panelist, and moderator at national and international conferences, she has also served as an invited guest reviewer for college departments and portfolio review events, such as Photolucida and Fotofest, as well as juried exhibitions at regional galleries and museums.
